1.7 Million Egg Cartons Recalled for Salmonella
On June 6, the United States Food & Drug Administration (FDA) announced that August Egg Company of Hilmar, CA, recalled 1.7 million dozen cage-free and certified organic eggs. The reason? Over the past few months, the eggs were linked to a multistate Salmonella outbreak.
According to the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC), there have been 79 reported Salmonella infections so far, of which 21 people were hospitalized.
Salmonella can cause severe gastrointestinal symptoms, such as diarrhea and intense stomach cramps. After eating the contaminated egg, you can experience symptoms within six hours or up to six days later.
The eggs were distributed across nine states. In California and Nevada, the eggs were distributed from February 3, 2025, to May 15, 2025, with sell-by dates of March 4, 2025, to June 4, 2025. The affected cartons were sold at Save Mart, FoodMaxx, Lucky, Smart & Final, Safeway, Raleys, Food 4 Less, and Ralphs.
The eggs were also distributed in Walmart stores in California, Washington, Nevada, Arizona, Wyoming, New Mexico, Nebraska, Indiana, and Illinois from February 3, 2025, to May 6, 2025, with sell-by dates from March 4, 2025, to June 19, 2025.
This recall affected several egg brands, including Simple Truth Organic, which is sold at Kroger stores, and Marketside, which is found at Walmart.

Rocky Road Ice Cream Pulled From Shelves for Allergen Exposure
On June 2, Unilever Manufacturing (U.S.) Inc., of Sikeston, MO, announced that it recalled 6,668 cases of Rocky Road flavored ice cream distributed nationwide due to undeclared allergens and a packaging error. This week, on June 10, the FDA classified it as a Class II recall, meaning consuming this item could lead to temporary but serious health consequences.
Breyers' Rocky Road Ice Cream was mistakenly packaged in a tub labeled "Chocolate Truffle" with a "Rocky Road" labeled lid. Because of this mixup, the tub says, "may contain tree nuts," whereas the lid declares that almonds are in the ice cream. This slightly conflicting information can pose a threat to those with a tree nut allergy, one of the most common food allergens in the country.
The recalled products were distributed to distribution centers and grocers all across the United States.
Product Name: Breyers Ice Cream, "Chocolate Truffle" 1.5-quart tub with "Rocky Road" lid
Lot Number: JUL1026GB3
UPC Code: 077567457288

Recall Number: H-0017-2025
Distribution: Nationwide
As of June 13, there haven't been any reported illnesses from consuming this frozen treat. Still, if you bought the mislabeled ice cream, you can return it to the place you purchased it from for a refund.
