The reason I like shopping at Trader Joe’s is that there are always fun new products to try. Those new discoveries add to my shopping experience, making the ritual feel like a treasure hunt versus a chore.
On a recent trip, as I was rounding the corner of an aisle, I spotted their new Organic Margarita Mix. Since the weather is warming up and, ultimately, because there’s no excuse needed for making margaritas, I pulled a bottle from the display. Excited about my new find, I went home, grabbed my ice and tequila, and splashed in the mix.
Trader Joe’s Organic Margarita Mix
- Price: $2.99 for a 24-ounce bottle
- Why I Love It: This new margarita mix from Trader Joe’s is great for cocktails and non-alcoholic uses. I love the simple ingredient list and the mix’s sweet-tangy flavor.
Why I Love Trader Joe’s New Organic Margarita Mix
Trader Joe’s does a lot of things right. Their bakery items, the selection of meats and cheeses, the array of snacks, and even flowers are all impressive. It turns out they make a pretty good margarita mix, too.
The new organic mix comes in a large 32-fluid ounce jug that can be used to make eight margaritas. The primary ingredients are water, lime juice, agave syrup, and sugar—and yes, it’s alcohol-free. As for flavor, it’s sweet, but thanks to all of that lime juice, it’s also perfectly tangy.
I’ve tried several margarita mixes, but this one feels closest to my homemade version, which is why I like it.

How to Enjoy Trader Joe’s New Organic Margarita Mix
Because this mix doesn’t contain alcohol, I can use it in a variety of ways. For example, it’s delicious mixed with sparkling water and sliced lime to create a NA margarita-esque refresher. It’s also fun to freeze into ice cubes, which can be used to flavor and keep punches or pitchers of fruit-forward drinks cold. I’ve also used it in marinades for grilled chicken and fish, and I’ve even stirred it into Greek yogurt topped with coconut for a snack!
Since the mix is a bit on the sweet side, if I’m using it for a margarita, I’ll reduce the suggested four fluid ounce serving to two fluid ounces and add a tablespoon or two of fresh lime juice for a bit more balance. I’ve used it with tequila with success and have even frozen it to create a delicious shaved ice-style dessert!
