Katy Kostakis is a Boston-based journalist and writer that, throughout her career, has covered arts & entertainment, lifestyle, health & wellness, commerce, beauty, food & dining, and culture. An alumna of the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University, publications she has written for include The Spruce, Turner Classic Movies, Paste Magazine, Den of Geek, The Midst, YourTango, SheKnows, The Kitchn, Time Out Boston, Well + Good, Film Inquiry, Gannett, Patch, and Simply Recipes.
A Massachusetts native, her own love of cooking and dining began from observing and following the example of two colorful women: her late grandmother and Julia Child. While their backgrounds and techniques were certainly different, they shared a genuine passion for cuisine and a desire to present their know-how in an informative and entertaining manner. She learned quite a lot from each and their affinity for food not only sparked her being an avid home cook, but to write about it years later.
Katy’s other passions include literature, cosmetics, perfumery, Renaissance and Medieval history, arts & entertainment, tarot, and astrology.
Beloved kitchen tools: "My two most beloved cooking tools are my KitchenAid stand mixer and Le Creuset dutch oven. I use them in preparing so many dishes; from cakes, cookies, and breads in the KitchenAid mixer to jambalaya, sauces, and taco fillings in my Le Creuset dutch oven. They may be on the pricey side, but are definitely work the investment! Plus, with proper care and maintenance, they will last forever!
