Over the last year, whenever I went into the Dollar Tree, I'd see these cute little fruit and veggie storage containers and stand in front of them for several minutes, debating if I should buy one. I'd inevitably decide against it and go on to grab my usual paper towels or toothpaste, smug in my restraint.

One day, after finding yet another mushy pile of forgotten grapes in the back of the fridge, I caved and tossed a couple into my cart. And now, I don't know what I'd do without them. For $1.25, these containers have completely changed how I prep produce and keep snacks on hand.

  • Price: $1.25 for one container
  • Why I Love It: It keeps produce fresh for longer and offers a surprisingly clever design.

Why I Love Dollar Tree's Fruit and Vegetable Storage Containers

These containers are part of Dollar Tree's cooking concepts line, and while they look simple, they're sneakily brilliant. The compact design features a sturdy plastic base, a removable slotted insert (similar to a mini colander), and a snap-on lid. The little insert is a game-changer because it lifts the produce just enough to keep it from sitting in moisture, so they stay fresh longer.

I use them for things like fresh berries, grapes, cut-up cucumbers, carrots, and celery sticks—essentially anything that tends to get soggy quickly or that I want on hand for quick, accessible, kid-friendly snacks.

They're compact, measuring just under 5 inches at the widest point, so they fit neatly in my fridge and can also stack without tipping over. They come in a variety of colors and are the perfect size for grab-and-go snacks. My kids love being able to pull one out of the fridge and help themselves. I love that it's something fresh and full of nutrients.

If you're a meal prepper, they're helpful for preparing ingredients like cut-up veggies, washed and dried herbs, and mirepoix ahead of time. And, of course, at $1.25 each, they're an affordable alternative to many of the produce savers on the market.

For the Best Results, Here's How to Use Them

To get the most out of these storage containers, ensure your produce is washed and dry before placing it inside. Excess water will significantly shorten the shelf life of highly perishable foods. I like to wash and pat my berries dry and spin leafy greens and herbs in a salad spinner before storing them.

Once I pop them into the slotted insert, I'll also place a paper towel on top to absorb excess moisture. This trick, combined with the container's clever design, makes a noticeable difference in the longevity of my produce.

Some days, I even use the insert to rinse and drain the produce before storing it. I thought I didn't need another storage container until I realized I needed this one. It's a tiny kitchen upgrade that makes a big difference, and that's my favorite kind.
