Whether I actually have a plan for it or not, a rotisserie chicken always makes it into my cart at Costco. Rotisserie chickens are delicious, and Costco’s is super affordable at just $4.99.
It can be turned into dinner that evening, or I can shred the chicken and freeze the meat and the bones for future use—dinner and stock, respectively. I often turn a Costco rotisserie chicken into chicken and dumplings for my family or big batch salads for my work week lunches.
So when I saw that Costco was selling a rotisserie chicken-sized Tupperware container, I immediately added it to my cart.
Costco Rotisserie Chicken Tupperware
- Price: $13.49 for one XL Tupperware container
- Why I Love It: It’s perfectly sized for a rotisserie chicken, prevents spills on the ride home, and is endlessly useful.

Sold as a “three-piece” set for just $13.49 in store ($23.29 on Costco’s website), Tupperware’s XL Food Storage container comes with an airtight lid and drainage tray. The container is decidedly chicken-shaped—not quite oval with one end that is wider and less pointed than the other—and holds one and a half gallons or six liters.
The drainage tray is particularly handy for lifting food out of the container. It has two sturdy handles on either side, making it easy to remove food from the Tupperware.
Since it’s large enough, roomy even, for a standard rotisserie chicken, this XL Tupperware container will also be generous storage for holiday hams and turkeys. The tray makes it ideal for brining whole chicken or pork shoulders, ideal for barbecue season.
There was a bit of controversy when Costco moved away from its two-piece plastic containers last year to the less sturdy rotisserie chicken bag seen in other grocery stores. With a company-wide goal to reduce plastic waste in its stores, one Redditor even predicted that Costco would eventually sell a “reusable chicken container” in the near future.
There’s no word on whether Costco will allow members to bring their clean XL Food Storage Containers into the store and get it filled with a fresh, bagless, rotisserie chicken (I did reach out to Costco to ask!), but I do know that my Tupperware will now at least come in the car with me for each Costco run. This way I can stash my Costco rotisserie chicken in it safely for the ride home and hopefully arrive with a less chicken-perfumed car and zero spills.
