Recently, while watching an episode of Abbott Elementary, I heard a joke that might as well have been written for me. In the scene, an eighth-grade teacher, Jacob, is speaking to one of his students. The student goes, “Mr. C, you must be moss, 'cause clearly, you live under a rock.” Jacob replies, “Well, I actually live over an ALDI.” I laughed out loud.
While I don’t live over an ALDI, I might as well based on how often I shop there, not to mention how much I talk—and write—about the store. I do my weekly shopping at ALDI, stocking up on both basics and special items. One staple that consistently makes its way onto my weekly shopping list is ALDI’s Sliced Sourdough Round.

Why I Love ALDI’s Sliced Sourdough Round
ALDI’s Specialty Selected Sliced Sourdough Round is my go-to bread for sandwiches. The loaf is priced at $4.15, which is more expensive than regular sandwich bread, but the slices are so big that I only need one slice to make a sandwich.
I love the taste of the soft, tangy bread and its artisanal look, which instantly makes my lunches feel elevated. While making a sandwich only takes a few minutes, using this bread makes me feel like I’m eating something fancy from a bistro.
How I Use ALDI’s Sliced Sourdough Round
ALDI’s sourdough is best enjoyed savory and makes great toast. I toast whole slices on top of a nonstick pan set to medium-high. Alternatively, you can cut the slices in half so they fit inside an average-sized toaster. I either use one slice to make a large half sandwich or eat the slice as an open-faced sandwich.
I love how the bread’s tanginess plays off of creamy toppings or fillings and have used it for avocado toast, tuna melts, and ricotta bruschetta. It also makes a wonderful bread for grilled cheese. I keep the round in the fridge so it lasts longer—it’s never gone stale before I’ve been able to use it all. And by the time one loaf is finished, I’ve already bought another.
